Typography

The specific typeface that artists Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger and Guerrilla Girls use is called Futura, a geometric sans serif typeface. The important thing to note about this font is its history of use in order to connect it to the use of women artists. In the beginning of the 20th century it was designed by a German designer Paul Renner (Thomas et al., 2017). In accordance with the industrial age and rise of design schools like Bauhaus, this typeface reflected exactly those features. It was heavily symmetrical, with classical proportions and without any unnecessary ornament. It was straight to the point, direct and without embellishments.
