“There is an undeniable link between women artists getting their voices across, and the use of text within art.”
First week started with my focus on identifying key topics and issues explored by women artists through their text based art practice. Artists that stood out the most were Jenny Holzer and Barbara Kruger with their very direct and powerful art. Consequently, many of the other artists used text for similar ways, exploring politically and social charged topics and also heavily commenting on feminism. With these strong commentary, one can assume that language is an appropriate tool for artists wishing to get their voices heard and understood.
